2012
HEAT
THE TOWN
OCTOBER 2012
This will be our 12th year to provide safe heat for elderly/disabled,
low-income homeowners in Lubbock!
We need YOUR help!
Facts & Figures
Every year there are many deaths in our country related to faulty heating systems or to the lack of heating
all together. Whether the cause is carbon monoxide leakage, gas leakage in a confined space, or simply
the lack of funds to afford repairs, our communities are faced with the grim results year after year. The
fact is that a majority of these heating related casualties could be prevented with a simple and thorough heating check in
the fall. However, the homeowner living on a fixed income must make a critical choice: food and medicine
or a heat check service call.
·
The ACCA – South Plains Heat the Town program does not receive any government
funding and relies solely on volunteers for donations of cash, labor, equipment and parts.
· Heat the Town
can dramatically improved the quality of life for elderly, low-income and disabled homeowners in the Lubbock area.
· ACCA
volunteers have donated time, money and parts to this program.
·
It is estimated that there are still hundreds of homeowners that do not have a safe
source of heat for their homes.
How Can I Participate?
- We need service techs, installers, helpers, dispatchers, owners, managers, friends and family to
help.
- Contractors are needed to volunteer the use
of their trucks and parts (parts can be reimbursed by ACCA-SP).
- Technicians are needed to run a couple of service calls, diagnose the problem and if a minor problem, fix it.
If it requires a major system component replacement, document it and give the information to our dispatchers.
- If
a carbon monoxide leak is detected, the unit must be condemned, leaving the home without heat until the unit can be replaced.
Assistance is available to help pay for major component replacement.
